♥ Media Monday: 'Lawless'

Posted by: Charlie Cochet in ,

On today's Media Monday, I'm posting about one of the movies I'm very much looking forward to this summer. In fact, it's due out in August (same month as my birthday!).

It was originally titled: The Wettest County in the World, as it's based on a novel of the same title written by Matt Bondurant. They then shortened it to The Wettest County. Now, for some reason, they've changed it to Lawless. Personally, I preferred the first two, but that'll hardly keep me from seeing it.

The movie is set during the Depression-era and is based on the true story of Matt Bondurant's grandfather and two granduncles known as The Bondurant Boys, a notorious gang of moonshiners during Prohibition.

Thanks, Piper, for this pic! Still swooning.
In the film, the brothers will be played by Tom Hardy (Forrest Bondurant), Shia Lebeouf (Jack Bondurant), and Jason Clarke (Howard Bondurant). As if that's not enough to entice you --how does that not entice you??!!  ----▶
there's Guy Pearce (Special Agent Charlie Rakes), and Gary Oldman (Floyd Banner).

The book is on my tbr list already. Of course there's no telling how close to the book the movie will come, as with all films based on books, but it should still be greatly fascinating.

Here's a little bit from the blurb on Amazon:

"... a gripping tale of brotherhood, greed, and murder. The Bondurant Boys were a notorious gang of roughnecks and moonshiners who ran liquor through Franklin County, Virginia, during Prohibition and in the years after. Howard, the eldest brother, is an ox of a man besieged by the horrors he witnessed in the Great War; Forrest, the middle brother, is fierce, mythically indestructible, and the consummate businessman; and Jack, the youngest, has a taste for luxury and a dream to get out of Franklin. Driven and haunted, these men forge a business, fall in love, and struggle to stay afloat as they watch their family die, their father's business fail, and the world they know crumble beneath the Depression and drought."

You find out more about the book and read the prelude here

If you don't know who Tom Hardy is, after The Dark Knight Rises comes out in July, I doubt there will be anyone who won't know him, as he'll be playing the baddie, Bane (sadly his face will be covered for most of the film *sigh*)

If you're a total geek like me, you saw him in Inception playing Eames, and the moment he stepped into the same room as Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character: Arthur, you were thinking the same thing I was. I know you were! (Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also going to be in The Dark Knight Rises, btw).

I am now going to subject you to the same picture that nearly gave me a heart attack.

"You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."

I'm going to lie down now. I feel a little lightheaded.

You know, I haven't seen Inception. I think I really ought to.

I'm SO grateful to Hollywood for employng our Brit thesps. The poor souls would have to get jobs as minicab drivers and waiters if they stayed here. TV too. I've been watching Game of Thrones and giving a little squeak of recognition each time I see someone I recognise.

@Elin Gregory
Oh, if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it, and not just for the eye candy. Despite the hype, it actually is a good film. I found the whole premise of the dreamworld very fascinating.

I have to agree on the Brit thesps. I remember seeing some of the 'before they were stars' shows over there, including clips of Daniel Craig's not so illustrious start. Lol. Can you imagine if Gary Oldman had ended up on Eastenders like his sister?! Oh my.
